Before taking on any new website seo projects we run a series of website onsite and offsite tests using our own inhouse designed software. These include the following checks designed to ensure a website hasn’t been penalised due to past seo companies using dubious techniques:

- Ip address diversity of inbound links
- Calculate link anchor text keyphrase density
- Website age and page rank calculation
- Check websites trust in the eyes of Google
- Check for thin content pages
Banned inbound links – These are links on pages pointing at the potential clients website where the pages have been de-indexed by Google and no longer appear in the search results. Google states that links on sites that are outside of the webmasters control cannot harm the recipient website, however we have proved this not to be the case. If a site has many grey barred or de-indexed pages with a link on them they will almost certainly harm any seo projects progress.
Site-wide inbound links – Site-wide links are those that appear on many pages within an offsite website and was a technique used many years ago to gain an advantage in the search results. This worked well until Google caught up with this and started penalising sites for having these types of links.
Ip address diversity – The Ip address of the websites that publish your inbound links are just like your home address , i.e they are unique to each household or website. If your site has many links from the same IP address this would not help the seo project.
link anchor text key-phrase density – This is a test that identifies if an inexperienced so called seo expert has overdone the amount of links pointing at a website using the same key-phrase over and over again.
Website age and page rank calculation – Unfortunately we choose not to work on seo projects where the clients site is less than 12 months old hence the age test, however there are exceptions to this rule when the client understands that results may take a little more time to filter through. The page rank calculation is not based on the figure shown on the Google toolbar but is calculated by our own inhouse page rank software. The tool bar only shows increments of between one and ten, whereby our software calculates this from one to infinite to determine a true PR figure. Obviously this is a very important calculation that can determine how competitive your niche is in when compared with the top ranking websites.
Your websites trust rank - This calculates how much trust Google assigns to any given website and is a very good indication of any penalties that maybe attached to a given domain.
Check for thin content pages – The recent Google Panda update (Q1 2011) was implemented to find duplicate content and thin content pages. Google now scores a site by the percentage of unique content and thin content/ duplicate text then calculates the whole website score to determine if its a good site to appear high in their search results. A high percentage of bad pages will cause the whole website to loose rank. We identify if any of your pages are caught up in Panda and advise accordingly.
Once these test have been completed we will have a snap shot of where your site is now (with regards to potential to rank) and a decision to take on your project or not would be made based on these factors.
